The mission of KnowledgeWise is to ...

Raise the spirit of the world
through knowledge and technology.

At this time in history, we have the opportunity to raise the working, applicable knowledge of individuals through the application of technology to organize and present information is timely and usable ways.

The purpose of organizing information in ways much stronger than we do now is to enable the access, reuse, and synergistic growth of information in natural ways.

The purpose of providing multiple presentation modes for structured information is to enable the most effective access to the same information by different individuals, with differing viewpoints, talents, purposes, and roles.

Knowledge management will only achieve its goals if it is based on self-describing structured information, not on information that is embedded into diverse document formats (word processors, spreadsheets, databases that are small and disconnected, databases that are large but with no data dictionary that is machine-processable).

The approach of KnowledgeWise is to combine effectively appropriate technologies of information organization and presentation to achieve this increase of usable knowledge. These technologies include:

  • XML as an enabling technology that provides information sets that are self-describing and presentation-independent

  • Information presentation styles such as those described by Edward Tufte

  • Information structured for presentation along the recommendations of Robert Horn
